audioBoom

A hybrid approach for the world’s leading spoken word social network

audioBoom has over 2,400 active content partners and works with some of the biggest names in broadcasting across sport, entertainment and current affairs to bring their content to millions of listeners worldwide via Facebook, Twitter and other media platforms. They are AIM-listed and have offices in the UK, US and Australia.

Fluctuating daily volumes with exponential spikes

Rapid scaling and large transient traffic bursts indicated things were on-track for audioBoom in its start-up days, but was also a mixed blessing. As they grew, they found a popular audio transmission could attract up to 60 plays a second and one report on the Guardian’s web pages attracted ¼ million hits per day, which proved too great a challenge for audioBoom’s existing infrastructure.

We needed a solution that could cope with daily traffic, but can handle exponential spikes in a very short period. That was one of the things that made us go with EveryCity – they’re able to handle that kind of growth.Mark Rock, Founder audioBoom

With consultancy built into our standard managed services we have advised AudioBoom on all aspects of hosting architecture and assisted in building a separate firewalled and audited payment gateway, and helped to develop a growth plan that includes, for example, upgrades to dedicated high-availability load-balancing hardware, further extending traffic capacity and providing increased reliability.
